Remote video surveillance is an essential part of modern video surveillance systems. Video surveillance systems may use fixed or mobile (air, space, land and sea) assets. It lets users view live video on a PC, laptop, or smartphone located anywhere in the world using Internet access. It also allows the user to remotely modify camera settings such as PTZ (pan–tilt–zoom), or to view multiple cameras simultaneously.
Network Video Recorder (NVR) systems are widely used for video surveillance. These systems may be connected to cloud services allowing remote access. They may also require port forwarding to be set up, and/or using a dynamic DNS service. Some systems allow sending still images via e-mail or MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) on a regular schedule or triggered by a motion detector.
Vulnerability of surveillance systems is also an important concern. Remote video systems and Network Video Recorders should be secured with physical, device and network protection techniques.
