New customized solutions allow access to different elements of the physical layer for fine-tuning current and next-generation WLANs

Buffalo, NY. April 2, 2002 – VOCAL Technologies, Ltd., a leading developer of software and hardware solutions for the communications industry, announces the availability of customized IEEE 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g wireless local area network (WLAN) solutions. These build-to-suit products enable designers to access different elements of the physical layer, allowing them to modify these elements to fit specific applications.

The VOCAL 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g customized solutions comply with WLAN standards, yet they can be modified to fit particular customer needs on multiple hardware platforms. By using these customized solutions, designers can quickly implement advanced features and include techniques such as channel probing, increased security, use of smart antennas, ray-tracing, and advance coding.

“With the Customized VOCAL 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g solutions, developers of WLAN systems and subsystems have access to specific points in the physical layer system that was not available with off-the-shelf solutions,” explains David Jamieson, Manager of Business Development at VOCAL, “At the same time, they can be confident that they are working with a reliable source of proven software code that will evolve to satisfy future standards.”

The VOCAL WLAN products can be used with multiple hardware platforms, offering second-source and design flexibility. VOCAL Technologies, Ltd. specializes in the development of new algorithms and advance coding techniques, and it has the expertise to integrate the code with next-generation IEEE WLAN standards. “Using the VOCAL customized solutions, IC and subsystem vendors can speed time to market for their new high-performance WLAN systems,” Jamieson adds.

The VOCAL customized 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g products are available now.
