Application Developer Creates VoIP Gateway Codec System that Supports 16 Channels of Realized DSP in Communications and Information Server
BUFFALO, N.Y., November 21, 2002 /PRNewswire/ — VOCAL Technologies, Ltd., a leading application developer of software and hardware for the communications industry, has designed a custom DSP software solution for InSciTek Microsystems’ new Allworx 10x Server. Designed for Analog Devices’ ADSP-21-mod9xx family of DSPs, the Voice Over IP (VoIP) gateway codec system supports 16 channels of realized DSP in the Allworx 10x, maximizing the performance of the innovative server.
InSciTek selected VOCAL Technologies’ solution, in part, because it provided the best voice quality. The voice codec system features a G.711, G729A, G.165 Line Echo Canceller, DTMF generation/detection, voice/fax/modem discrimination, and echo cancellation. Another key element was VOCAL Technologies’ ability to provide a complete turnkey DSP software solution, according to Jeff Szczepanski, Chief Technology Officer of InSciTek.
“VOCAL Technologies was willing to customize the solution for us, which was imperative to meet our design requirements. We saved an immeasurable amount of man hours by outsourcing the project to VOCAL,” said Szczepanski. “The combination of design flexibility and voice quality made VOCAL Technologies the best alternative for our needs.”
Those needs were considerable because of the extensive capabilities of the Allworx 10x. The server combines a communications and information server appliance that is located on the customer site with a set of centrally hosted optional Internet services. This fully integrated solution not only replaces current offerings consisting of a traditional telephone system and network PC servers, but adds key enabling capabilities such as shared high speed Internet access, unified messaging, group collaboration, and remote access.
VOCAL Technologies was able to deliver a custom solution because the company boasts the most comprehensive data, telephony and modem software libraries in the industry. The company accommodates a complete range of ITU/IEEE/ETSI compliant modulations, optimized for execution on ANSI C and leading DSP architectures (ADI, ARM, ATMEL, CEVA, MIPS and TI). Software is modular and can be executed as a single task under a variety of operating systems or it can execute standalone with its own kernel.
