Software solutions improve power, range, and performance in current and next generation WLANs
Buffalo, NY. February 12, 2002-VOCAL Technologies, Ltd., a leading developer of software and hardware solutions for the communications industry, announces the availability of proprietary Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) Codes to improve performance and lower power requirements in the receive portion of mobile devices in a wireless local area network (WLAN). With anticipated explosive growth in this market, WLAN system designers can benefit from this state-of-the-art coding technique.
Using VOCAL LDPC Codes, WLAN system designers can achieve an additional 5-dB coding gain, which can be used to reduce power requirements, allow higher integration, achieve better performance in hostile environments, and increase range. LDPC Codes shift the complexity to the transmitter (and the majority of the power requirements), simplifying the receive function and thereby lowering power requirements. LDPC (downlink) codes used in conjunction with Turbo Codes (uplink) optimize the power consumption in the mobile device, which maximizes range.
“With the VOCAL LDPC Code Solution, developers of WLAN systems and subsystems are assured they are working with a reliable source of proven software code that will evolve to satisfy future standards,” explains David Jamieson, Manager of Business Development at VOCAL. “Using the VOCAL coding solutions, IC and subsystems vendors can speed time to market for their new high-performance WLAN systems.”
The VOCAL codes are designed to be used with multiple hardware platforms, offering second-source and design flexibility. VOCAL Technologies, Ltd. has been working on LDPC Codes and Turbo Codes for more than three years, and they have the expertise to integrate the codes into the IEEE WLAN standards.
The VOCAL LDPC Code software products are available now. VOCAL also offers a Turbo Code product, which is available now.
