capon or mvdr beamformer
MVDR beamformer maintains a distortionless mainlobe response toward the desired signal

VOCAL’s Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) Beamformer software, also known as the Capon Beamformer, is used for speech enhancement applications, including noise reduction and speech dereverberation.  The MVDR beamformer software package includes a beamforming algorithm to dynamically steer a beam at the source location.  A source localization algorithm is also available to provide the beamformer with the source location coordinates.

MVDR Beamformer

The Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) beamformer minimizes the array output power and maintains a distortionless mainlobe response toward the desired signal. The weighting vector of the MVDR beamformer is determined by:

wMVDR = argw min(wHRxw), subject to wHa(ϴ0) = 1 [2]
