The VOCAL V.150 Analog Modem Adaptor for Secure Phones allows STE phone users to continue utilizing their devices after traditional copper lines have been removed.

How does the V.150 Analog Modem Adaptor work?

The V.150 AMA uses a standards based approach to bridge the gap between legacy STE phones and modern VoIP networks. It implements the ITU-T V.150.1 protocol to locally terminate the modulation that caries the secure encrypted voice data. This data is then sent over the SPRT protocol to another V.150 appliance where it can be remodulated and sent to the another STE phone. The V.150 AMA can be paired with VOCAL’s V.150.1 Gateway for a complete end-to-end solution that is directly compatible with remote secure phones with no changes required on the far end.

What are the benefits of the V.150 Analog Modem Adaptor?

STE phones rely on legacy modem technologies to transport encrypted traffic across the public telephone network. Because of this, they often have issues connecting over modern VoIP networks that have different characteristics from traditional, fully analog links. For example VoIP networks can have packet loss, jitter, sample slip, and other impairments that modems were simply not designed to handle ( VoIP Effects on Data Modem Communications). The V.150 AMA combats this by terminating the modem locally – rather than attempting to send the modem audio over a G.711 steam that may be subject to VoIP impairments. As a results, the V.150 AMA allows users to continue utilizing their STE phones for secure voice calls, even when their analog POTS lines are getting removed – preventing the need to purchase new and expensive secure phones.
