Buffalo, NY. February 5, 2002-VOCAL Technologies, Ltd., a leading developer of software and hardware solutions for the communications industry, announces the availability of the physical layer software code to build 802.11a 802.11b and 802.11g wireless local area network (WLAN) integrated circuits (ICs) and subsystems. The WLAN market is poised for significant growth over the next few years. Cahners In-Stat Group projects that wireless public area access service revenue will grow from $3.9 million in 2001 to $224.7 million in 2005. To service this need, WLAN IC and subsystem vendors will need a reliable source of proven software code that will evolve to satisfy future standards. ?VOCAL?s WLAN product is designed to offer the PC card or IC manufacturer the flexibility to use different hardware and still port the same WLAN functionality,? says David Jamieson, Manager of Business Development at VOCAL, ?Our product is available now, can be integrated with available RF solutions, and is proven and tested. Our engineers can customize it to satisfy vendor-specific needs." Currently, WLANs are being deployed at 5-GHz (802.11a) and 2.4-GHz (802.11b and 802.11g), and each standard requires a different set of programming code. The VOCAL WLAN product line includes a version for each IEEE WLAN standard (802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g), enabling WLAN IC and subsystem designers to quickly realize the basic functionality of their design. 802.11g is the newest standard for WLANs and allows the use of both 802.11a and 802.11b systems within the same 2.4-GHz band. ?Engineers at VOCAL have been able to leverage our expertise in software modem and telecommunications technology to develop a software solution that enables our customers to speed development of their next-generation WLAN solutions, without dependence on a single hardware vendor,? adds Jamieson. The VOCAL WLAN software products are available now. About VOCAL Technologies, Ltd.
