VOCAL Technologies Announces Voice-Over-DSL Standard Software for Analog Devices' ADSP-218X DSPs New standard software configuration specialized for Voice-Over-DSL applications targets CPE and server equipment manufacturers. Buffalo, NY March 21, 2000 - VOCAL Technologies Ltd., a leading supplier of DSP-based communication technologies, announced today that it has released a standard software configuration for Voice-Over-DSL (VoDSL) applications on Analog Devices' ADSP-218x family of digital signal processors (DSPs). This software product is the second in a series specialized for Voice-Over-IP (VoIP) applications. Much like the way the VoIP product has an application interface tailored for the Real-Time Protocol (RTP), the Voice-Over-DSL product is tailored for the ATM Adaptation Layer 2 (AAL2). Use of the application-optimized interfaces for each packet voice standard reduces the host burden, especially for server equipment. The high integration and low-cost aspects of the approach make it ideal for consumer CPE applications, as well. Both standard products support up to 4 channels of vocoders and T.38 fax in an any-protocol-on-any-port-application (APAPA). The available vocoders in the standard configuration of the products include G.711 (PCM), G.723.1 with Appendix A VAD/CNG, G.729A/B, G.165/G.168 Echo Canceller, DTMF detection/generation and call progress detection/generation. Optional codecs include G.721/G.726, G.722.1, G.728, G.727, G.729, G.729E, GSM FR, GSM HR, GSM EFR and GSM AMR. For greatest density of channels, an application-optimized package supports 8 channels of G.711 with 32-msec G.165 echo cancellation and DTMF detection/generation. According to Scot Robertson, Director of Marketing for Remote Access Products at ADI, "Our ADSP-218x DSPs have been optimized for voice over packet applications. We believe that VOCAL's application-specific standard software will enable many opportunities for our mutual customers. The ability to use any voice or T.38 fax protocol on any port is exactly what the market needs." The standard software packages from VOCAL are derived from its comprehensive library of data, facsimile, and voice functions. Standard configurations reduce the testing requirements for customers, leading to lower cost and quicker-time-to-market solutions. For those customers who require functions beyond those in the standard and optional packages, custom solutions can be provided. According to Dr. Victor Demjanenko, VOCAL Technologies' CTO, "Customer demand has led us to create this standard product to benefit numerous high volume applications. Our many years of experience with voice has enabled us to develop the application-optimized interface, making it much easier for developers to implement the many voice standards. VoDSL is a particularly demanding task because of the need for many channels over the local loop." About VOCAL Technologies, Ltd.
